Investigation of different ways of activation of fly ash–cement mixtures: part 2—mechanical activation

Abstract Introducing supplementary cementitious materials (SCM), e.g. fly ash, into cement composite results in ecological benefits. However, the case of high amount SCM used as a replacement part cement, there are problems related to development desired properties final composite. Such mixtures often require activation. In first this series publications, chemical activation (using Na 2 SO 4 and Ca(OH) ) mixture with very content ash were discussed. The aim work was investigate influence mechanical on hydration microstructure binder composed 80% 20% cement. Mechanical performed using planetary ball mill. following instrumental methods activated ash-cement pastes: calorimetry, TG/DTG, FTIR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled EDS.
